Pickin’ Cindy

A Cure for the Rainy Day Blues

Carol Phillips

Now what do you do on a cold, cloudy and rainy afternoon?  You pick music of course!  I’m just sitting here with my autoharp pickin’ Cindy, a wonderful old roots music tune.  She has been around for a long time (Cindy not Carol), but she never gets old, and I never get tired of  playing or hearing it.  Her origins go back to the minstrel days before the Civil War.   Cindy was first recorded by Samantha Bumgardner and Eva Davis from Western North Carolina for Columbia Records in 1924, making them the first women in country music to be recorded.  While I’m sitting here pickin’, I may as well pick a tune or two that The SunnySide Band put on their CD.

If you would like to hear some of those songs too, just visit The SunnySide Band’s Home page or their Music page.  We always invite you to buy one of our CD’s and you can hear those old tunes whenever you want to.  Please feel free to leave us a comment on our Feedback page and let us know what you think.
