Another Roots Music Tune

Carol Phillips and Jim Lilly

This is minstrel-flavored song originally entitled Watermelon Smiling on the Vine written by T. P. Westendorf in 1882.  The song was a favorite of many old-time string bands and was recorded by the likes of Uncle Dave Macon and the Monroe Brothers.  The version that The SunnySide Band often performs comes from a rendition by Gid Tanner and the Skillet Lickers, who recorded it in the 1920’s.

If you would like to hear The SunnySide Band perform some of their favorite roots music, we invite you to visit our Home page or our Music page.  We also hope you will visit our Blog page and read some of my exciting and informative posts, purchase one of our CD’s, and visit our Feedback page and leave us a comment.
