    Musicians Ear Plug

    Pat's Outdoor Party (12)

What will they think of next??  Jim Lilly, acoustic guitar player with The SunnySide Band lost the hearing in his left ear back in March due to a sinus infection.  He has regained the hearing but has kept the terrible ringing.  His ear doctor was able to fit him with a customized ear plug this week, and we played for three hours yesterday — it worked great!  He can turn the volumn up or down to let in more or less frequencies.  He’s happy and we’re happy!!

The SunnySide Band would encourage you to visit their Music page and listen to a few of their favorite tunes.  The Band will be posting some new “Gigs” soon so keep checking the Gigs page.  Thanks!!

    Dinah Ansley’s Afton Mountain Home

The SunnySide Band in Waynesboro, VA

A Grand Time was had by all at the Breaking Up Christmas Gathering at Dinah Ansley’s lovely Afton Mountain Home yesterday.  There were Dulcimer pluckers, Banjo pluckers, acoustic guitar pluckers, autoharp pluckers and up-right bass pluckers all in a big huddle just enjoying making old-time mountain music.  I almost forgot — there was some “flat-footin’” going on too!  Can’t wait for the next get-to-gather.

The SunnySide Band would like to invite you to visit their Music page and listen to a few of their favorite selections, then visit their Gigs page to see where they will be performing next.  If you are planning an event, The Band would encourage you to have them come and share their energetic music with your guests — just visit our Book Us page!

At The Montpelier Center for The Arts

The SunnySide Band performing at the Stone Soup

The SunnySide Band performed a Gospel Music Set at the new location for The Gospel Chicken House Express on Saturday night in Montpelier, VA.  The original Gospel Chicken House closed more than two years ago with the passing of the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Pollard.   The Montpelier Center for The Arts is a wonderful place to hold the new Gospel Chicken House Express Shows, and the crowd was large and appreciative.  The sound system for us was a mix of the House System and three mics belonging to The Oxidines who were performing on Saturday night also.  Mics for acoustic music and mics for “Canned Music” don’t usually mix well, but we thought it turned out pretty good.  The folks there love The Original Carter Family, so we were right down their alley.  Carol’s autoharp got lots of applause and well as Jim’s acoustic guitar.

The SunnySide Band would encourage you to visit their Music page and listen to a few of their favorite selections and then visit their Gigs page to see where they will be performing next.  If you are looking for a band for a special event this summer, just visit their Book Us page and leave your information.

    SunnySide Band

Jim Lilly, the acoustic guitar picker with The SunnySide Band either has the flu or Lyme disease.  The doctor is not sure which, so he gave him three weeks of penicillin to be on the safe side.  He ate some soup today and kept it down, and his temperature is down to 100.  Needless to say, he does NOT feel up to driving two hours over to Fredericksburg, stand and play three hours, and then drive back two hours to Elkton.  Betty Calvert, upright bass player with The SunnySide Band just had a Root Canal this morning, need I say more!!  The Band is going to cancel their Friday night performance at The Recreation Center, 213 William Street, Fredericksburg.  Sorry!  May will be a better month!!

    Jim Lloyd and Trevor McKensey

    Carol Phillips' Grandfather's fiddle

The SunnySide Band changed it’s mind completely and went to Blue Ridge Community College Friday night instead of The Stone Soup.  The College presented a program of Old Time Mountain Music by Jim Lloyd and Trevor McKensey from Rural Retreat, Virginia.  Great music and story telling.  Jim Lloyd played acoustic guitar and banjo and Trevor McKensey played acoustic guitar, banjo and fiddle.  Hands were clapping and toes were tapping everywhere!

    A Spiritual Nook in Kinderhook

    Are You From Dixie

Last night The SunnySide Band played for the last night of revival at this lovely little mountain church.  The people were most warm and friendly and our music was enthusiasticly received.  The comments we heard most often were, “I love the old gospel songs, I remember The Carter Family singing those songs, I love the autoharp, Boy, Jim Lilly can really play that guitar, and Betty are you really going to drive back to Richmond tonight.”  We were treated to cake, cookies and all kinds of pastries after the service.  Oh by the way, Michael Upchurch drove over from White Hall to see us and brought his friend!  What a fan!

The SunnySide Band invites you to visit their Home page and their Music page to learn more about the band members and their favorite old time tunesThe Band would also encourage you to visit their Feedback page and leave them a comment and let them know what you think.  SunnySide would like to meet you and share their music with you, so just visit their Book Us page and leave your information.  Thanks!

    Thanks Friends and Fans

The SunnySide Band at The Rec Center

The SunnySide Band played to another packed house at their monthly Gig at The Recreation Center in Fredericksburg, VA.  A great big thank you to all of our Friends and Fans for coming out again to support us.  The Band was delighted that Jim Lilly was over his Shingles enough to make the drive over from Elkton.  SunnySide really missed his acoustic guitar playing and his singing last month.  Betty was in fine voice and brought the house down with her Patsy Cline version of I Fall to Pieces.  We look forward to another fine turn out  in August.

The SunnySide Band would like to invite you to visit their Home page and their Music page and listen to several of their favorite selections and then to visit their Feedback page and leave them a comment.  The Band would also encourage you to visit their Gallery 2010 and 2011 page and check out the wonderful pictures that friends and fans like Lavern Beachy have taken and posted to the Wedsite.  SunnySide would like to meet you and get to know you and what better way to do that than to play for your next event.  They would encourage you to visit their Book Us page and leave your information.
