An example of the Gospel Songs that I blogged about yesterday

    SunnySide Band

Shall We Gather at the River is an old-time or roots music gospel song written by Robert Lowry in 1864.  It was first recorded on May 10, 1927 by the Dixie Sacred Singers composed of Uncle Dave Macon, along with Sam and Kirk McGee.  It was, incidently, one of Uncle Dave’s favorite hymns.

The SunnySide Band enjoys singing Gospel songs, and we invite you to visit our Music page to listen to some of our favorite songs.  The fourth song on our CD, Singing On the Mountainside is an original gospel song that Jim Lilly and his wife, Melanie Davis wrote.   If you like what you hear, we invite you to visit our Gigs page to see where we will be performing next, and to visit our Feedback page to let us know how you feel about the group.  The SunnySide Band would love to meet you and share our music with you, so we encourage you to consider having us play for your next event.  Just visit our Contact page and fill in the blanks–we’ll do the rest!  In case you haven’t seen enough of us, we think you should look at our Gallery 2011.  Let us know what you think!!

    Like Old Home Week

The SunnySide Band at the Marshall Center

Last night The SunnySide Band was the featured band at the monthly Jam Session at the old Spotsylvania High School in Spotsylvania, VA.   The event is a combination social gathering and picking session for the locals.  We saw many old friends, and we made some new friends as well.  The crowd was very enthusiastic and responsive, and CD sales were great.  SunnySide did a combination set of Jim Lilly’s original songs, Betty Calvert’s Classic Country songs, and Carol Phillips sang The Original Carter Family songs.

The SunnySide Band invites you to visit our Home page and our Music page to listen to our favorite Roots Music songs, and they also invite you to visit our Gigs page to see where they will be appearing in the near future.  While you’re browsing, the band invites you to visit their Contact page if you would like to have them perform at your next event and visit their Feedback page and leave a comment to let them know how they are doing.

    The SunnySide Band was pleased

Graves Mountain Spring Bluegrass/Gospel Music Festival

A roaring fire in the large stone fireplace + propane heaters + lawn chairs + bluegrass music = Graves Mountain Lodge Spring Bluegrass and Gospel Festival.  This was a new venue for The SunnySide Band, but I must say that we hung right in there with the bluegrass pickers.  The audience was smiling and singing, and the other bands were looking and listening — that was a good thing.  Betty Calvert sang several of her Classic Country songs, Jim Lilly sang a couple of his original songs and a few gospel songs, and Carol Phillips sang her favorite Original Carter Family songs.  A good time was had by all.

We invite you to listen to The SunnySide Band playing our favorite tunes on our Home page and our Music page.  We also encourage you to purchase one of our CD’s and to leave a comment on our Feedback page.
